Service Description

Still life painting offers artists a quiet, meditative way to explore composition, form, and color—one carefully observed object at a time. Whether you're arranging a simple study or developing a more elaborate setup, the process invites you to slow down, look closely, and translate what you see with intention. This class provides a supportive environment for students to work from still life arrangements or pursue independent projects of their own choosing. We’ll begin each session by considering the fundamentals that give a painting its strength: thoughtful composition, clear value structure, and an understanding of how light moves across forms. Students may choose from studio-provided still life setups or bring personal objects that inspire them. For those working independently, this class offers the time and space to develop a project with individualized guidance. Throughout the course, we’ll explore traditional painting methods—from establishing an underpainting to building confident layers of form and color. Attention will be given to creating convincing textures, harmonious color relationships, and balanced compositions. Demonstrations and one-on-one critiques will support each student’s process, allowing for growth at any skill level. This class is designed to encourage curiosity, personal expression, and the pleasure of sustained studio practice. Whether you’re refining your technique or exploring a new idea, you’ll have the freedom to develop your work with clarity, patience, and creative focus.
